UK GOVERNMENT
The Shale Gas Team is located in BEIS, which has responsibility for final approval of shale gas drilling and for energy security and climate change policy;
- The Oil and Gas Authority awards the PEDLs;
- DEFRA plays a key role in regulating the industry;
- The Treasury sets the fiscal regime and both BEIS and DCLG have an interest in promoting job creation, regional development and economic growth.
- The UK Parliament (including the APPG on Unconventional Oil and Gas and the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology),
- The House of Lords and the Devolved Governments all have an interest in monitoring developments and can benefit from new evidence from our project. The Climate Change Committee that has a legal responsibility, to monitor the impact of shale gas development on the UK climate change policy.
LOCAL GOVERNMENT
- Councillors and planning officers are looking for independent sources of evidence and expertise to help inform their decision making and can be accessed through their professional organisations (the County Councils Network (CCN), Local Government Association (LGA) and the Planning Officers Society (POS).
- The legal profession and consultancies also have an interest in the regulatory regime.
- The Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) in potential shale gas development areas have an economic interest.
