Session 1 - Final Reflections
We welcomed Prof Phil Macnaghten who provided a concise history of shale gas in the UK, focusing on what we have learnt with regards to institutional framing of fracking; how our understanding of the deficit approach has shifted; and how research methodology is adapting towards responsible research and innovation. This was followed by a presentation from Dr Emily Cox, who is leading an Open Call project on the spillover effects on fracking. Her talk generated a lively parallel debate in the Zoom chat function about local communities and their acceptance of new energy developments.
