Integration Event 4 - March 2022
Dr Phil Bartie
I am originally from Guernsey where I worked in various technical roles for government before joining the academic world. After some travelling I settled in New Zealand, and while there did a PhD in Geographic Information Science at Uni of Canterbury (NZ) while also working part-time at the Geospatial Research Centre on a range of commercial contracts. I am now based at Heriot-Watt University within the Computer Science department.
My research interests include how spatial data models may be used to improve the effectiveness of interactions with mobile computers (e.g. autonomous vehicles, robots, and wearables) while exploring geographic space, and in developing spatial analytical and decision-making methods that support more natural human-machine interactions.
This has included working with big data, real time visibility modelling from LiDAR sourced Digital Surface Models, using computer vision for object detection and face recognition, HCI, and developing parallel algorithms for realtime spatial analysis.
